Gayo Sumatera Specialty Beans offering to Saudi market.

Degayo team visit to Riyadh and Jeddah on year 2023, Oct 28th – Nov 4th.

The Degayo’s team was at Riyadh – Jeddah for analyzing the Saudi Arabia’s market in terms of their exposure and acceptance of Gayo Sumatera Specialty Coffee and Degayo Coffee roasted coffee.

We started off with Saudi as the management are looking to penetrate the current Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) countries such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries such as Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Turkey, Syria, Palestine and Cyprus.

Due to Malaysia and Indonesia are heavily Muslim populated nations which are also producing halal products, the story line does intact with the Middle Eastern core essential values. Both the Gayo Sumatera Specialty Coffee of PT Degayo Agri Indonesia (www.degayo.com)  and the roasted beans of Degayo Coffee (www.degayocoffee.com ) from Global Coffee Resources (www.globalcoffeeresources.com) are to be promoted there.

We are able to understand better on Saudi market acceptance of our products. The market is still huge, the gap is still big and we are in need to find a better way to ensure all the existing players to test our specialty green beans and also our roasted beans. Gayo Sumatera Specialty Coffee haven’t been fully exposed yet to the Saudi market.

Image 1.1: Prospects met VS number of players

Roughly we had met around 10% from the actual size of the potential prospects in Riyadh and Jeddah. The time limitation and also the work method of some Arab’s employees and owners had pushed / postponed the meetings to the following week which we will not be in Riyadh any longer.

The market in Saudi is booming especially in Riyadh and Jeddah. It seems the Arabs are starting to shift from the normal commercial coffee and instant coffee into roasted specialty coffee.

Further exploring Saudi market by identifying the potential prospects in Riyadh. And also, the region of Jeddah. The prospects of roasters and traders who have the financial capability and operational capacity in importing our roasted beans and green beans into Saudi Arabia.

From what being told and observed by one of the oldest roasters in Riyadh, “the line in Starbucks and Dunkin Doughnuts are around 50 people queuing to get the coffee. But now the trader observes that only 2,3 people are lining up to get the coffee. Arabs are moving into specialty coffee now. That is why player from 2017 and 2020 are growing fast due to the heavy demand in specialty coffee.”
